Three Reasons to Retire in Summerville
Word is getting out. Summerville is becoming known as a great place to spend your retirement years. There are numerous reasons for this but let me just mention a few.
Great Climate
One, we have a great climate with an average high of 76 degrees. This sounds nice and all, but what this really means for you is that you can take advantage of the beaches, the golf courses and all the parks and trails in the area almost every day of the year. If you love sand, sun and the ocean, we have 5 plus beaches that are a short drive away. A day at the beach can become a regular thing. If you prefer golf, you're also in luck. Summerville is home to five courses and Charleston offers another 15 award-winning courses within an hours drive. You'll never run out of beautiful places to spend the afternoon playing golf. Summerville also offers beautiful parks, miles of walking and biking trails and an active outdoor community.
Cost Of Living
Two, the cost of living in Summerville is around the national average. In comparison to the tri-county area, it's lower due to housing costs being more affordable than Charleston and the beach areas. In addition to the cost of living being low, the state offers no state income taxes on Social Security benefits and no estate or inheritance taxes. Keeping this money is a great way to enjoy retirement just a little bit more.
Plentiful Active Adult Communities
Three, in response to the growing retirement population, numerous active adult communities are being developed. Currently, there are five with another one already being planned. These communities cater to the homeowners aged 55 and over with independent, relatively low maintenance lifestyles. The communities offer top-notch resort like style amenities, planned community events and classes, and things that provide opportunities to be a part of an active community with people who have similar interests and desires. Bonus Reason
And here's a bonus reason: we have six award-winning hospitals should you ever need them. Two are in Summerville, one in West Ashley and three downtown including a VA hospital to care for our veterans. Here is some additional information on each one.
If you are still unsure, let me throw one more thing in there. Summerville just made the Forbes 25 Best Places to Retire in 2017 list!
If you've already retired here or are thinking about it, I would love to hear your comments!
